Oaks Family Care Center- Brunswick, OH
One of my favorite things I get to do is be the FIRST comedian a nonprofit partners with for a fundraising night. I love sharing what I’ve learned from being on the road and performing at TONS of galas, banquets and fundraising nights…because I’ve seen it all! Haha. So I was so pumped when Sarah (the executive director at Oaks Family Care Center) contacted me and wanted to discuss switching from their usual dinner banquet to a comedy & dessert night. After a Zoom call and me passing along all my “tips and tricks for having a great comedy fundraiser”, we got an event on the books!
And the event was AMAZING. I got to tour their building ahead of time, see all they do, and meet the team & board. The Oaks Family Care Center is serving so many people, so many needs….it truly blew me away. Every room we went to, Sarah would say, “so when a person needing XZY comes to us, this is where we bring them and this is how we serve them.” From young women with unplanned pregnancies, to couples having marital problems, to the elderly facing food insecurity, the Oaks finds away to serve these people in need and not turn anyone away. WOW!
Our comedy show event was a blast. A full room of people laughing all night! Meeting and chatting with all the Oaks supporters after the show was a real treat. So many kind and sweet people. And I was truly thrilled when I received the email a few days later from Sarah saying, “we’ve been receiving amazing feedback about you and our event!” And that the funds raised were similar to what their original banquet had historically brought in so a big success being the first one!
